Pan Celtic Race

Paul Winder

The Pan Celtic Race is a self-supported, ultra-endurance bicycle ride that takes riders through stunning landscapes and rich cultures of Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Brittany.

A unique and authentic journey of discovery through the heartlands of the Celtic Nations. The Pan Celtic Race Series draws on the history, culture and heritage of the Celtic people and their customs, and will take you on an adventure unlike any other.

Paul Winder, our "lycra clad loony", completed the Pan Celtic Race 2023 on 11 July, after cycling more than 2,000 km across six Celtic nations in just over 9 days. The Pan Celtic Race is a self-supported, ultra-endurance bicycle ride that takes riders through stunning landscapes and rich cultures of Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Brittany.

Paul started his journey in St Malo, France, where he enjoyed some croissants and coffee before hitting the road. He then crossed the English Channel to Portsmouth, where he faced some hills and headwinds in the South Downs. He then followed the ancient King Offa's Dyke, a defensive wall built to keep the Welsh out of England, but apparently not to keep cyclists out of Wales. He reached Llandudno, the finish line of the race, after circling the Great Orme, a large limestone headland that offers spectacular views of the sea and the mountains.

Pan Celtic Race 2022 - The Irish Coastal Route - Donate

Paul is no stranger to the Pan Celtic Race, having completed it in 2022 when he pedalled more than 1,600 miles and climbed nearly 66,000 feet along the coastal routes of Ireland. He raised over £1,100 for Gordon Moody, the UK’s only charity that provides dedicated support for people with gambling addiction issues.

About My Black Dog

We All Struggle Sometimes

Paul is not only doing this for himself, but also for a good cause. He is raising money for My Black Dog, as he believes that mental health awareness and support are vital for everyone, especially men who often struggle to talk about their feelings. He hopes that his ride will inspire others to speak up and seek help if they need it.

Mental Health Chat Support

My Black Dog is a charity that offers peer-to-peer support for people who are struggling with their mental health.

All of their volunteers are people who have lived experiences of their own mental health battles and understand what you are going through. They are FREE. ONLINE. EVERY DAY.

When you don't know who to talk to, talk to someone who gets it. My Black Dog understands that coping with mental health is HARD, and not knowing who to talk to can make you feel scared and alone. You might be worried about what people will think of you, you might feel ashamed, you might feel that they won't understand you. They do.

Every single person that is a part of My Black Dog, from the volunteers to the ambassadors have felt this way before. We get it.
