UCAS has revealed that there has been a record number of applications to UK universities over the lockdown with more than 4 out of 10 18-year-olds applying by 30th June.
University admissions service, UCAS, has revealed that a record 40.5% of 18-year-olds have applied to attend university, with numbers significantly rising during lockdown. This statistic compares to last years figure of only 38.9% of 18-year-olds applying, bringing some hope for universities after the Covid-19 induced uncertainty.
The number of applicants from outside the EU was up 10%, at just over 89,000, while the EU was 2% down on last year, at just over 49,500. Those figures could, however, change significantly by the start of the new academic year as students reflect on their choices.
