Residential Estates were pleased to welcome Dr Robin Gleek to our offices today to present a cheque for £1,000 to The Friends of Mufulira Charity, to help the local hospital, doctors and people in Mufulira, Zambia. The charity was formed to give structure and impetus to the work that was already naturally evolving. Thanks to the suggestions and hard work of Dr Robin Gleek, some members got together to endow a programme to send two to three NHS trainee doctors on their electives to Ronald Ross General Hosptial in Mufulira – as Dr Gleek had once done in the late 70's. They hope in future years to build on a programme so that Zambian doctors or nurses can travel to the UK for study.
Dr Gleek was kind enough to show us the issues faced in Mufulira today from a health perspective and ultimately what £1000 can give to the local hospital, which helps massively, with much needed equipment, to help combat HIV and malaria amongst other problems.
Dr Robin Gleek formerly a long serving and highly respected doctor at the Tarporley health centre retired from the practice in 2014, now partially retired but still works as a clinical advisor to the NHS England complaints team, along with his charitable work with the Friends Of Mufulira.
